By playing Flashback I was hoping to get a nostalgia trip and a happy reunion with Conrad. After six hours I wouldn't say it's the best game I've played, not either a game I put a lot of time in, but I liked getting flashbacks to a bygone era. The steering is more action oriented than the original and the story is changed a bit. I bought the game on sale on Steam and the low price justifies the six hours of gaming fun (completed it on Normal difficulty). I don't think I'll be playing through all of the achievments in the game. However, recommended for a challenging and nostalgic gaming session.. Flashback is back. One of the coolest games from the days of Sega G is re-imagined on Steam. Complete with achievements and improved graphics (everything looks so much more real and alive). If you liked the original you will be exited by this remake. Flashback is sci fi cyberpunk at its best. Retrieve your memories, travel across space and thwart an alien invasion in a stunning futuristic setting. It is mostly the same storyline but has a few bike races that were not in the original. Also, check out the cool power ups and in game tutorial stage. Platform style shooter with futuristic devices (force fields, teleporters, glasses from the movie They Live, holocubes, (watch out for those antimatter fields), and more). Clearly an underated game.. Come on guys this is low budget. Have a heart.It's a nice retelling of a great old game.I had far too short an attention span to complete the original so looking forward to experiencing the story by playing this version instead.First level felt like the old one, and I'm enjoying it so far.. This is a text-book, step-by-step tutorial in how to completely destroy a classic, original, ground-breaking masterpiece--which the original, 1993 Flashback clearly is. The team behind this MUST be hung for treason (or, at least, never be allowed to make a computer game again)! Terrible!!! Just terrible!!!!!! If you buy this, you deserve all the curses that Allah--the 'god' of 'peace'--shall surely bestow upon you, effendi. Terrible.. This is not a good game.. Similar to the original but with updated graphics, more dialogues and worse controls.Mixed bag but still recommended for fans of the original.The orginal Flashback was one of my favorite games on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis in USA) and I have completed that game multiple times during the years. I started playing this updated version on hard with my xbox elite controller and the aiming controls with the right thumbstic was so aweful, I felt the need to relearn the game with mouse keyboard during the very first level. Aiming and shooting with the mouse is far superior, but still chunky when enemies gets close to you. Combat is much faster and the enemies loves to charge you. I usually ended up trying to snipe them down from a distance or abusing elevators and such. Binding rolling and the force shield to the mouse is not possible, you have to use them with the same hand as movement. Combining this with the much faster gameplay, rolling and force shield becomes alot less effective compared to the original. Crounch, roll and moving down from edges are all on seperate keys now. Pushing down and roll like in the original would have been much prefered. All the enemies have a lot of health and kills you with few hits on hard. Medium difficulty started out super easy (had to check it wasn't on easy), but got harder after the first level. On both Normal and Hard the thougher enemies takes a while to kill. And for some reason the aliens you meet at the last stage regenerates back to full health at random, making these encounters frustrating, both on hard and normal.The password system from the original is gone, and the game saves at checkpoints. The game overwrites a save automaticaly and there is no way for you to save manually. I and many others have encountered a bug where the game just crashes and then crashes again when you try to load your game. Since you cannot load a earlier save or try to restart the level without loading the save file the only option is to start a new game from scratch. Because of the games frustrating high difficulty (on hard) and bad controls, this is alot to ask, making me replaying most of the game on normal. The level design is similar to the orignal and all the original levels are present. A few more puzzles, usually involving throwing grenades or shooting at something makes this version different enough while still being reasonably faithful to the original. The graphics are obviously updated but still looks somewhat familiar. The 30fps cinematics sure looks choppy and lacks the charm from the older game. The Story has changed a bit, with more characters and dialogues that are all a mixed bag. Without spoiling I must say that the ending cinematic felt rushed compared to the original.The game has a skill system where you level up and puts points into three categories. The only useful ones are more health + health regen and chance to crit hit. The game says nothing of what your crit chance is so I have no idea if putting all your points into this gives you 100% crit chance or any other number, 50%? Better put a few points into crit hit and everything else into health, you will need it...There are also VR consoles thet you will find at different places during the game, theese takes you to a level where you can complete challenges. There are 3 challenges per enemy type ecxept for the last alien enemy guy, these challenges are unlocked when you get further in the game. The challenges are like, kill 10 droids, kill 5 droids in 10 secounds or kill lots of droids and pick up 20 health drops (I speak from memory here). These challenges are recomended to do since they give lots of experience the first time (and still less experience if you want to redo). The difficulty of these become really hard with some enemies though at both normal and Hard, the teleporter guys are frustrating to kill with a time limit because they cannot be shot when they teleport and has too much health. Also the energy drop thing can be difficult because enemies does not always drop energy. Guess that is why they are called challenges...There is also a horrible buggy sneak level on the VR level, that well is just that, horrible. Gives you a upgrade to something if you complete it, but may not be worth it. Thankfully sneaking is totally not neccesary in the normal game. The sneak part starts with you walk beind (super slow) an enemy hit F when told and the enemy eighter insta dies or gets bugged and thrown to the ground and the spots you or you get to retry hit F if you'r close enough. When you get past him you have to hang on to an edge, shoot (this is very important) and then grab the enemy when he walks close to you. The grab function never appears if you don't use your gun and shoot, (amazing stealth machanic). Sometimes the game decides that you cannot grab regardless and after a few secounds the enemy spots you. This is fixable with exiting VR level and then reenter. And finally sometimes you get spotted for no reason. If you ever get spotted you get back to the start of the entire stealth level.Also worth mentioning that this is a Ubisoft game and require you to install and set up Uplay. I am a massive Flashback fan from the Original. Had it on PC, Sega Mega Drive, Android. I would make your own judgement on the game. For me this is a excellent game if you love Flashback. It's not to be compared to the original as being better or worse, it's just a modern take on it. I love this game and nice to be able to have it on Steam. For me it runs on max perfectly and I use a genuine Xbox controller. I find the gameplay fine and graphics. It's a shame there is so much bad feedback as the game doesn't deserve it. Maybe if your unsure wait for a sale and just check it out for your 2 hrs. If it's not for you refund. And if your leaving a feedback make it constructive unlike a lot of it. I personally recommend this game if your a Retro Head and loved the original. Go in with a open mind and ready for a fresh take. If your stuck in the original and can't get out then you may be disappointed.. Glitchy platformer with uncomfortable controls. Very short story. Fans of the original might enjoy the replay value with animations and graphics, but to new players, it's kinda a bore.. side scrolling blast from the past. i remember playing this as a kid and still has its charm. funny characters and updated graphics. game of the year no. if you want a simple fun game to play when your not in mood for others this is the casual game you should try.
